Dry Mouth: Knowing Tobacco and Alcohol to be the Possible Causes

There are many things that can cause dry mouth. Apart from certain diseases that can be the reason for this condition, dehydration and certain medications can also be added to the list. In order to prevent the occurrence of dry mouth, it is vital not to consume too much of these because they can be the key in the prevention of dry mouth for most people.

Tobacco poses a major problem with those with dry mouth. The mouth is kept dry when you are constantly exhaling and inhaling the smoke from a cigarette. Cigarette smoking is considered an activity that is directly connected to the symptoms of having dry mouth. In order to stop this condition, tobacco or cigarette smoking must be stopped altogether.

With alcohol, it is a known fact that it can basically draw water out of the body. Alcohol by itself does this and also when it is combined with other ingredients which could easily lead to dehydration. This occurs especially when a person is having a hangover after a bout of drinking alcohol the night before. When too much water has been removed from the body, this is then vulnerable to dry mouth and dehydration.

Therefore, when you know that alcohol can dry out the mouth, you need to avoid products with too much alcohol content in them. Most of the traditional mouthwash products have high alcohol content and will dry out the mouth even further therefore it is best not to use them or else look for products with less or even without alcohol. Natural mouthwashes are the ones preferred by most people since these do not have high alcohol content. These products make use of natural ingredients to help clean your mouth. Because they do not have the high alcohol content, you will not experience the drying out of the mouth that comes together with it.
